Prairie Family Medicine no longer participates in the Kootenai Care Network (KCN).

We know that insurance can be confusing. That’s why we want to help make things easier and help you understand what’s happening.

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions that will help you stay connected with us.

Who is affected by this update?

  • Anyone who has purchased the Blue Cross KCN plan through the Idaho Health Insurance Marketplace (also referred to as The Exchange or Your Health Idaho)
  • Anybody that has coverage through Kootenai Health’s employee insurance
  • Anyone that may consider enrolling in a plan purchased off the state’s marketplace in the future

How do I know if I have one of these plans?

  • If you are enrolled in a plan available to Kootenai Employees. Your current insurance policy ID has an alpha prefix of KOX, KOO, KMQ, or KHO. .
  • If you are enrolled in one of the Blue Cross of Idaho KCN plans purchased on the Idaho marketplace that specifically uses the Kootenai Care Network. Your current insurance policy ID has an alpha prefix of KOX, KOO, KMQ, or KHO. .

Why should I stay with Prairie Family Medicine?

  • We know you! Maintain your provider-patient relationship and care team
  • Why change a good thing? We value you as a patient and we want to continue providing you with high-quality, compassionate care.

What can I do about it?

  • If you are enrolled in Kootenai Health’s employee plan, unfortunately, we will remain out-of-network. You may choose to continue to be seen but your claims will process to your out-of-network benefits.
  • We value you as our patient so we will be writing down and adjusting your out-of-network charges through December 31st, 2023.
  • If you have a KCN plan purchased from Your Health Idaho you may consider selecting one of the other options during your next open enrollment.
  • Mark your calendars for Oct 15th. Open enrollment begins for 2024 coverage. At that time you can log into yourhealthidaho.org and select your plan. If you’d like to be in network with Prairie Family Medicine, you must choose a plan that does not utilize the Kootenai Care Network.

What are the other options to select from the Idaho Marketplace that do not use Kootenai Care Network?

  • You can pick from the payer list below, but if you pick a Blue Cross of Idaho plan you must select one that uses the Hometown North network and not a plan that uses the Kootenai Care Network to be considered in network with Prairie Family Medicine.
    • Blue Cross of Idaho Health Service Inc.
    • Molina Healthcare of Idaho
    • Mountain Health CO-OP
    • PacificSource Health Plans
    • Regence BlueShield of Idaho, Inc.
    • SelectHealth, Inc.
  • Ultimately you must choose the plan that works best for you. Choosing a different plan and changing your network may affect whether you remain in network with other providers outside of Prairie Family Medicine you may also see.
